Raining's Stairs, Inverness

This long-vacant, challenging sloping site in the heart of Inverness required an intelligent solution to provide sixteen social housing units, within what is now a high profile development. The project was awarded the prestigious 2019 RIAS Award for Architecture, judges were quoted as saying that it is ;

'a building of significant architectural quality' and 'a key element within the overall city centre regeneration and transformation'...

'Its implementation has transformed and revitalised what was an all but abandoned no-go area of the city. The pleasant and now frequently used external public stairway and pedestrian route... gives access to a series of external landings serving the three tiers of housing which provide 16 much needed flats. The architect’s innovative layout has intentionally enabled the main living area of each flat to benefit from attractive southerly views, further adding to the desirability of these cleverly planned affordable homes.'
